This demo shows the operation of a 4bar mechanism.
CONTROLS
- Click and drag the left-hand purple link (this is the input link).
- Either select a shape from the shapes pull down menu, or enter in the coordinates
of the shape that you want.
Entering your own coordinates:
- Look at the boxes in the applet window. The X and Y columns specify the labeled corners of the shape (ie A0, P0...).
Point A0 is at the origin when the program starts up. You can move around all the points with respect to the origin.
DEMO DESCRIPTION
- You can change the size and shape of your 4bar mechanism in any way that you like. When you drag the input link
the path of point P is drawn on the screen.
- 4 bar mechanisms are very useful in such things as assembly line machinery, automotive parts, prosthetics, water sprinklers and many MANY other areas.
by varying the length of the links in a 4 bar mechanism you can configure your device to follow different paths at different speeds.
In reality a motor (or some other actuator) is connected to the input link to power you device.
