Curriculum
for Undergraduate Students
In the Fall of 1997, the School
of Engineering Science phased in a new curriculum for undergraduate
students. This new curriculum includes complementary courses in management
and finance, entrepreneurship, professional ethics, the social impact of
technology on society and communication skills. In their final year,
students complete an undergraduate thesis project based on a challenging
technical problem.
Effective Fall 2002, the program has been split into a B.A.Sc. (Honors) and B.A.Sc. Please see Undergraduate Curriculum Committee News for more details.
Options
Students in the Bachelor of Applied Science program
(BASc and BASc (Honors)) follow the core courses common to all options
during first and second years. In third year, students may specialize in
one of the following options:
Electives
i. for students admitted before Fall 2006
ii. for students admitted in Fall 2006 and after
Writing, Quantitative, and
Breadth (WQB) Requirements for Graduation Students admitted to SFU in Fall 2006 and after are
required to meet the following WQB requirements in order to graduate.
Writing Requirement: 6 credits of writing
intensive courses, including at least one course from the upper
division, preferably within the student's discipline. In ENSC, this
requirement is normally met by taking ENSC 100/101 (corequisites) and
ENSC 305/440 (corequisites).
Quantitative Requirement: 6 credits of quantitative intensive courses. In ENSC, this requirement is normally met by taking ENSC 150, ENSC 220, ENSC 225, and ENSC 250.
Breadth Requirement: (a) 6 credits of Sciences – B-Sci; (b) 6 credits of Undesignated Breadth -- B-UD (courses taken outside the student's major program); (c) 6 or 9 credits of Social Sciences and Humanities - B-Soc and B-Hum - depending on the option you are in. In ENSC, the B-Sci requirements are met with PHYS 120 and 121. However, if you take PHYS 125/126 instead of PHYS 120/121, the B-Sci requirements will be waived. The B-UD requirements are met with CHEM 121 and CMPT 128. The B-Soc and B-Hum requirements can be met by carefully selecting the complementary electives; please refer to the section on Pre-Approved Complementary Studies Electives for students admitted in Fall 2006 and after for details.
