Hello and welcome. This month's Enscquire isn't too bad. A lot has been happening this semester, and we've got it summed up nicely. You may notice a few changes this time around. First, there are some articles. Second, we got rid of that alligator on the cover. We scratched Al 'E' Gator because, hey, a gig can only last so long. We figured it was time to retire him. By the way, if you want to replace him with something else, feel free. Third, I removed the "Da Prez Sez" heading. Maybe its replacement isn't great, but I just couldn't stand that article title and besides, there's no one here to stop me.

I suppose newspaper editors are supposed to write something thought inspiring and interesting. I've got three things to say. This issue has two articles that imply a certain apathy among engineering students. The subject of apathy is of particular interest to me, being Enscquire editor and all. It's interesting that most people are in favor of having our own student newspaper, but no one really wants to contribute anything to it. You know, you guys are allowed to write articles. A typical excuse is "I can't write!". Well, consider your target audience. Most engineering students think in similar ways when it comes to language oriented tasks. Our general inability to communicate effectively hasn't hindered our achievements (well, maybe a bit...). The point is, it doesn't matter if you "can't write". We'll all be able to understand you anyway! Hell, write in point form if you have to.

Second, I thought I should inform you all of something. I was a bit disturbed to learn this bit of trivia. You know how deserts are associated with giant, green cactus plants? And you know how Death Valley is one of the most "deserty" of all deserts? Well, I recently went on a road trip to Death Valley. I really wanted to check out the desert and see some giant green cacti. And you know what? There are no giant green cacti there.

Third, I just wanted to remind you that the 1998 - 1999 yearbook is currently being produced. The yearbook committee would appreciate any help you can give. Also, yearbook sales will be on and off over the next several months. Look for us near the glass doors in the pit. Remember to buy yours early because there are a limited number of copies being made! To help out, or, heaven forbid, order a copy, email:

One last thing... I'd like to say thanks very much to the contributors of this Enscquire. Their participation has really made this issue a good one. Enjoy.
