Who Are We?

The IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The SFU IEEE provides SFU engineers the opportunity to join the IEEE and enjoy significant student membership discounts.

The IEEE is a great resource for students in our Engineering program. With your subscription, you receive the IEEE Spectrum magazine as well as Potentials, the magazine for up and coming Engineers. In addition, we are part of the Greater Vancouver IEEE chapter, receiving invitations to attend a number of seminars and presentations by high profile speakers throughout the year.

The SFU IEEE provides you with the opportunity to advance your technical skills and academic merit. For instance, SFU has had great success in the IEEE student paper competition with a number of accolades over the years. We have also visited high technology firms in Boston and the Silicon Valley as part of our academic experiences. We also hold regular activities such as hikes, and also provide you with access to an exam file of previous course exams.

In short, we seek to:

  • Promote the IEEE and Engineering
  • Provide you with valuable resources and reference material
  • Provide you with access to technical seminars and presentations,
  • covering the latest exciting technologies
  • Establish contacts with companies through facility tours
  • Enrich the academic culture through student paper competitions
