Report on NOLTA'97

NOLTA'97 in Hawaii

NOLTA'97 (1997 International Symposium on Nonlinear Theory and its Applications) was held from November 29 - December 2, 1997, at Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel, Hawaii.

This symposium was organized by the Research Society of Nonlinear Theory and its Applications, IEICE. It was the third international symposium focusing on the subject of nonlinear theory and its applications. More than 300 papers were presented in 58 sessions, covering all areas of nonlinear theory and its applications by more than 330 participants from 26 countries. Two volumes of Proceedings have been published.

The symposium was chaired by Kazuo Horiuchi, Waseda Univ. (honorary chair), Shinsaku Mori, Nihon Inst. Tech. (general co-chair), and Shun-ichi Amari, RIKEN (general co-chair).

The plenary lectures were as follows:
Frank S. Weblin (UC Berkeley): "Neuromorphic modeling of retinal function using CNN"
and
Kohshi Okumura (Kyoto Univ.): "Nonlinear oscillations in three-phase circuits - from undamped electric oscillation to bifurcation phenomena".

The next NOLTA symposium is scheduled in September of 1998 at Le Regent, Crans-Montana, Switzerland.
