the euss retreat
kiyoshi kuroiwa, vp finance

On February 27th and 28th, the EUSS had a retreat at Matt Stewart, Kiyoshi Kuroiwa and Tom Weir's apartment. The EUSS executives and a couple of other people met in the pit on Friday afternoon. After an episode of figuring who was driving, everyone got safely to the apartment.

At the apartment, Tom had laid out our supper. Everyone was to make their own pita pizzas, with one catch. The group was divided into pairs. One person was blindfolded and the other person couldn’t talk. Laura Leigh and Aaron Kaiway were paired up. There wasn't a spoon for the pizza sauce, so Aaron put Laura's hand right into the pizza sauce.

After supper, inter-university events were discussed. One of the interesting things discussed was a national bug push. We were thinking UVic would push a VW bug to Hope. UBC would push the bug form Hope to about Kamloops. SFU engineers would push the bug from Kamloops to around Banff. From there, U of C would take it from there. The bug would eventually reach Eastern Canada.

The EUSS VP executive duties were discussed, as well as a restructuring of the EUSS. We discussed which positions are overloaded and how to balance the workload.

We breaked at around 10:45pm. After watching South Park, we watched a movie. Everyone went to sleep at around 3:00am.

At 8:00am, Kiyoshi woke everyone up by taking a bunch of pictures. After breakfast, our major events such as Op Fair, First Week and Polar Plunge were discussed.

After lunch we talked about the coming events for the 1998 - 1999 academic year. Then we talked about spirit building activities and how to build spirit and morale in engineering.

If you have any ideas or thoughts about the EUSS and how its run, or about spirit in engineering, feel free to e-mail any EUSS executive.
