Started
in 1993, the Opportunities Fair is an annual event where high-tech companies
from industry are invited to set up booths in our atrium area at SFU to
show off their wares, promote their company, and show people how leading-edge
their technology is -- a showcase of companies and corporations!
But
who are we kidding? Op Fair provides a convenient setting where everyone
can make contacts with potential employers or employees. It's also a chance
for different people in the same industry to meet, for students to find
companies they'd like to work for, and for companies to find students
they'd like to have work for them!
Opportunities
Fair 2000
Our first OpFair of the century (or last depending on your point of view)
was another great success. On January 24th and 26th 2000, we had many
top high tech firms from the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, and the
U.S. gather in the ASB atrium to meet the talented engineering and computing
science students at SFU. The success of this event was due in large part
to the many able volunteers that gave much of their time to make this
event happen. The Career Fair and Resume seminar held the Friday before
the OpFair proved useful for many students. This year we also revived
the relaxed trip to the pub after the fair (a.k.a "Beer and Nachos")
which the company reps and students enjoyed. A great time was had by all
and we look forward to a greater level of success next year.
Opportunities
Fair 1999
The 1999 Opportunities Fair again saw many of the most promising students
from SFU interact with another great selection of technological companies.
The fair was held over March 3rd and 4th, 1999 hosting companies such
as PMC-Sierra, Hewlett Packard, GTE Enterprise Solutions, and Raytheon
(previously known as Hughes). As usual, we look forward to the positive
results of our annual event -- for both our graduating undergrads and
the high-tech companies that come each year.
Opportunities
Fair 1998
The 1998 OpFair was bigger than ever! This year, we joined forces with
the Computing Science department and boasted over 25 leading technology
companies! This fantastic event took place on February 3 and 4, 1998 in
the Applied Science Atrium! Many of the hottest companies in technology
were in attendance, including Creo, Motorola, ISM-BC, and Honeywell MeasureX.
Opportunities
Fair 1997
1997 was another successful year for Op Fair, but we limited the fair
to only one very full day this time. Also, we cancelled the traditional
dinner meet in favour of a more relaxed trip to the pub afterwards. Companies
who came this year included Motorola, Scientific Atlanta, Creo, Glenayre,
APEG, and several Newbridge affiliates!
