Welcome to the virtual SFU engineering lab. If you do not have support for VRML 2.0, get your plug-in before exploring this site. Here you will find a virtual model of the Simon Fraser University engineering lab, affectionately known as "the Pit". The purpose of this model is two-fold. Firstly, it allows you, the visitor, to walk through our lab without necessarily being here but more importantly, this model allows us to perform our own interior designing.

Interior designing? That's right. The Pit is not only a computer lab, but also a study area for many of us. However, we often have new furniture or projects that require cubicles, tables, and other furniture to be re-arranged to accomodate these. Every time we re-arrange the cubicles, the students are disrupted from their studies and quite often, the new configuration poses some new unforseen problems.

The solution to this is to have a virtual Pit within which we can configure the furniture in any way we choose and walk through this new Pit. In this manner, the students are not disrupted unless absolutely necessary and a reasonable configuration can be found and walked through.
