Service

I took part in a fund raising event to raise funds for research into Alzheimer's for the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia by hiking up Mt. Kilimanjaro (got a certificate from the park). We reached the summit of Kilimanjaro on September 13, 2010. I would be grateful if you can add the Alzheimer society of BC to the list of charitable organizations that you support. Here is a set of pictures I collected to showcase our journey.

Research Interests

Methods: Computational anatomy, algorithms for segmentation and non-rigid registration of medical images, statistical shape analysis of anatomical shapes and time series of functional and structural images.

Applications:

  1. Brain: Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's (with collaborators Drs. Perminder Sachdev, Wei Wen, Lei Wang, Tilak Ratnanather), Parkinson's (with Dr. Martin Mckeown), and Huntington's (with Dr. Elizabeth Aylward). For an overview of the cost of neurological disorders on Canadian Health Care, see "The Burden of Neurological Diseases, Disorders and Injuries in Canada".  Recent articles: 1) Vancouver Sun, 2) The Province.
  2. Heart: Study the Development of the embryonic heart using Optical Coherence Tomography (With Drs. Marinko Sarunic and Glen Tibbits)
  3. Eye: Study the structure of the retinal layers (With Dr. Marinko Sarunic and Dr. Paul Mackenzie)
  4. Peripheral nerves: Study the non-invasive pre-surgical imaging and visualization of the sciatic (Drs. Andy Hoffer and Burkhard Maedler)
