*** Public Service Announcement ***

Morgan Chambers, EUSS Prez

Wow! For the end of the third week I am amazingly busy. Due to my hectic schedule this Prez Sez will not be dedicated to waxing poetic (or otherwise) about my philosophy on life or the waning of the summer, but will instead be a public service bulletin.

I mentioned the Wighton fund at the AGM in September, and I'll bring it up again as a reminder. The fund provides money for projects which have a direct, practical application. If you are involved in a project course (or are doing an extra curricular project) write up a 1 to 1 1/2 page proposal of the project and submit it to Andrew Rawicz (preferably within the first 2 weeks of classes). Just in case you are planning to take your project on the road, be aware that the fund is only for parts not travel.

I am also pleased to announce that not only are we the proud owners of the 1st Annual SFU Community BBQ Tug-o-War trophy, we now have the 2nd annual one as well. We have started a dynasty! The winner this year was one of the two undergrad teams with an unbelievable 4-0 record. The only team not beaten by the undergrads was Physics (but then they declined the challenge so one could say they lost by default). But to give Physics their due, they came out and for the second straight year beat the ENSC staff in the annual best of 3 grudge match! The craven Computing Science department didn't even submit a team (even though both staff and students were challenged). The most memorable tug of the afternoon was between the second undergrad team and the ENSC grad students. The match went on for 4 or 5 minutes before the undergrads emerged victorious. The EUSS was asked to org-anize the tug-o-war this year because we won last year. So be prepared for the request when it comes next year. Start thinking out groups to challenge. For those of you in res, get a floor team together and challenge another floor.

One final thing. A big thanks goes out to Steve Whitmore for taking time out of his busy schedule to help the first year students get their email accounts. It seems that the EUSS can drop off a list of the accounts they need activated but we don't look respectable enough be given the account names and their passwords! This has been a public service announcement by your friendly EUSS.
