web threads
jenni merrifield, staff surfer

Hello and Welcome to Web Threads, the first in a series of Web Review articles printed in the Enscquire for your perusal. Since I spend a lot of time surfing about, I thought I'd help Kevin out by providing him with some Enscquire fodder with brief reviews of some of the "threads" that make up the "web". Essentially, these are all web sites that I've discovered during my web travelling and have found to be interesting or useful or just plain fun. Hopefully you'll enjoy visiting them too.
One more thing: I use my home system for surfing and have a monitor capable of displaying "millions of colours" at 800x600 resolution. It's possible that some sites I review will look downright awful on the ENSC computers since they are only set up to display 16 colours and 640x480 resolution. If so, Try them from another campus computer instead if you can!

Today's Theme: Comics, Cartoons, and Animation

[ the dilbert zone ] United Media Page
http://www.unitedmedia.com/

Home of "The Dilbert Zone", United Media is a great place to check out on a daily basis. This site contains a HUGE collection of syndicated comic strips and editorial cartoons. A great place to stop by for an extended morning chuckle.

The Chuck Jones Page
http://www.chuckjones.com/

Most people are fond of "Saturday Morning Cartoons", and have been since they were knee high to a transistor. Chuck Jones is one of the best known cartoon animators, having animated many of our favourite cartoon characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote and the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. At this site you can read about the history of Chuck Jones and you can even find out how to purchase some of his work.

The Non-Stick Looney Page
http://www.nonstick.com/

Speaking of Bugs Bunny, et al, this is one of the best "unofficial" Warner Bros. Cartoon sites I've found on the web. Everything you ever wanted to know about Warner Animation, including information on the animators and all our favourite characters. In particular, there is an EXTENSIVE sound-clip collection (in WAV format) of many pithy comments from Bugs, Elmer, Daffy, Tweety, Marvin Martian and more.

[ toy story ] The Disney Site
http://www.disney.com/

And of course, if you're talking about Animation, you can't forget the grandaddy of the animation houses - the Walt Disney Co. This is a great site, whether you are a kid or a kid-at-heart. The site changes on a regular basis, but the last time I was there you could take a virtual tour of the Magic Kingdom, read about the new Live action "101 Dalmations" movie, download "games" and "colour pages" based on "Toy Story" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", and you could enter a contest about the new "Mighty Ducks 3" movie. If you like Disney, for their animation, their live action, or their Amusement parks, you should find something to amuse you at this site.

And that's it for the first edition of Web Threads!

Editor's Addition
http://www.spacejam.com

While this site will be out of date by the time you read this, Space Jam's website is definitely well related to the cartoon and Warner Bros. theme. You'll find some bio on all the characters including the Looney Tunes, the aliens that invade and the basketball players that are featured in the movie.
