Soundgarden
Down On The Upside

The experiment is over. After taking a mellower tone on its last album, Superunknown, this Seattle rock band is back in its true element, hard rock. This album is more reminiscent of Bad Motor Finger than it is of Superunknown. Everything from the hard riffs to the even harder lyrics mark this as a quintessential Soundgarden effort. To say the least, the tunes on this album are bleak and dark. Tunes such as "Ty Cobb" are loaded with anger, while tunes such as "Pretty Noose" and "Blow up the outside world" are more brooding. A must have album for those of you who abandoned this band after "Bad Motor Finger." Also note that they are playing at the PNE forum on Dec. 7th, tickets available at ticket master.

Matthew Good Band
Last of the Ghetto Astronauts

Hailing from Coquitlam, B.C. this hometown band just recently made it big with their album, Last of the Ghetto Astronauts. To say the least the quality of music this band produces is not only exceptional but also unique. The best way to describe their music would be to say that it ranges from the intensely moody to the almost brooding. Perhaps, the one tangible quality that marks this band would be the mystical voice of lead singer, Matthew Good. To say the least his voice plays a big part in creating the sense of loss and mystery on tracks such as "Symbolistic White Walls." If you are interested or curious about their music, check out 99.3 the Fox. As well, they play around town a lot if you are interested in seeing them live. I would recommend this CD to all rock fans, this band just added a cool new twist to Rock'n'Roll.
