James Kuo

Adjunct Professor of the School of Engineering Science

B.S.E.E., National Taiwan University, 1977
M.S.E.E. Ohio State University, 1978
Ph.D.E.E. Stanford University, 1985

IEEE Fellow 1999

Low-voltage CMOS VLSI circuits, Compact modeling of semiconductor devices.

Prof. Kuo was granted the IEEE Fellow Award in 1999 for contributions to modeling CMOS VLSI devices. He is the first professor in microelectronics at NTU ever receiving the IEEE Fellow award. He is the third electron devices professor in the country receiving this award based on the accomplishment in Taiwan. He has been awarded the Outstanding Research Award in Microelectronics three times, granted by National Science Council 1995, 2000, and 2003. He serves as a member in the international advisory board of the IEEE Circuits and Devices Magazine and vice president of the membership committee for the IEEE Electron Devices Society. He is a distinguished lecturer of the IEEE Electron Devices Society. He has published over 260 technical papers and authored eight books including Low-Voltage SOI CMOS VLSI Devices and Circuits (John Wiley, New York, 2001), Low-Voltage CMOS VLSI Circuits (John Wiley: New York, 1999) and CMOS VLSI Engineering Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) ---Kluwer Boston, 1998. He has graduated 60 MS and PhD students specialized in CMOS circuit design and device modeling, currently working in leading US and Taiwan's microelectronics companies.
